Course Description
Jewelry fabrication is an introductory course in the processes and procedures for fabricating jewelry and small sculpture. We will focus on the proper use of tools, equipment, and materials in depth throughout the projects. We will survey the history of jewelry and explore the careers and business practices associated with metals fabrication. Using the elements and principals of design, we will create a portfolio of works that showcase your knowledge of craftsmanship and knowledge of the materials.
Possible Topics Covered
Materials- copper, brass, nickel silver
Surface Treatments and Textures- hammering, stamping, rolling mill, reticulation, acid etching, polishing,
Shaping / Forming- piercing, drawing and rolling wire, bending, forging, Joining- soldering, rivets, chain making
Tools- files, saws, hammers, anvils, abrasives, drill press, measuring instruments
Grading Scale
Grading Policy:
Grades will be based on Presentation and Professional Skills.
80%-Projects assignments and quizzes
20%-Classroom citizenship – work habits, in class safety, group participation, clean up.

Free Counseling (therapy) Services available to Hazen Students!
