Course:  This trimester, students will use their AP resources and resources provided by Frau Rombauer to master advanced grammar concepts and apply them in challenging academic learning situations, such as reading, writing, and speaking (presentations, guided conversations).  Students must take the initiative to actively seek out learning opportunities and identify what concepts they need support in outside of the required material.

German 4/AP

In AP® German, students develop proficiency based on the World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages.  These include the three modes of communication:  Interpersonal (speaking/listening), Interpretive (reading/listening) and Presentational (writing/speaking). 

The student also develops an understanding of the culture and people of the German-speaking world. 

Grading Policy:

Assessments: 60%   Classwork: 25%   Participation: 15%

Assessments include in class and online quizzes, tests, and projects. Summative assessments will help students practice Interpersonal, Interpretive, and Presentational modes which include conversational speaking/listening, listening/reading for comprehension, and presentational speaking/ writing.  These may also include an Integrated Performance Assessment (IPA).

Classwork includes handouts, book work, online assignments, and AP modules

Participation includes daily interactions, willingness to speak in German,

effort to engage in activities and with individuals to complete given tasks.

***Culture Credit: Students will complete 50 pts of culture credit during the trimester. This will be part of the participation category. According to the ACTFL World Readiness Standards for Language Learners, German Learners will use the language both within and beyond the classroom to interact and collaborate in their community and the globalized world. Students will become lifelong learners setting goals and reflecting on their progress in using languages for enjoyment, enrichment, and advancement.

Format of the Course:

AP German is a year-long course that will prepare you for the AP test in order to earn up to 5 college credits. Students will engage in German 3 materials as a review, or in a more complex way. Students will also engage in specific activities made for German 4 students. Students will additionally be expected to engage in course materials in an independent manner - including completing tutorials, online modules, and grammar work sometimes without guidance from the teacher. If you are struggling with the independent study portion of this course, please partner with another student or see Frau R before school or during lunch.
