Welcome to Intro to Visual CTE Production Art 1&2
- Communicate effectively while being able to define, analyze, and solve problems.
- Practice the techniques associated with the following mediums: graphite, pen & ink, charcoal, soft pastel, oil pastel, and watercolor, with possibility for multi-medium projects.
- Study Art History’s time periods, movements, and most influential artists.
- Apply the connection of history’s knowledge to present application of Artistic Communication, and how Artistic Communication is a hirable skill in artistic occupations such as: Graphic Design, Video Game Design, Fashion, Illustration, Architecture, etc.…
In this course, you will be learning about what art is, what components make organized art, art history, its movements and the artist’s associated with them and much more. I aim to introduce to you the magical world that is art which is surrounding us at all times, and introduce you to the mediums and techniques that will allow you to express yourself, and the beauties you see in the world.
This course is also a CTE course, which means Career Technical Education. CTE courses are designed to introduce you to skills that are directly applicable to careers in the real world. Not only are we going to study the history of art, but we are going to look at where art has taken us up to today. This course will be very informative, fun, and at times difficult. I encourage you to give it 100% effort, and enjoy the learning process.
As we progress through the course, you will be compiling your work and finalized projects into a binder or folder “portfolio” by date. This Portfolio, its neatness and completeness will be graded at the end of the semester. Please be organized and thoughtful with your work. THROWING ARTWORK, TESTS, AND PRACTICES AWAY IS UNACCEPTABLE. This is how we show how much we have learned. This portfolio is to be thought of as a diary of learning, and growth.
Classroom Expectations
- RESPECT - I expect everyone to be 100% respectful and honest to one another. Respect the teacher or substitute, your classmates, guest speakers, and any/all other people. Disrespect will not be tolerated, and will be addressed, and administrative disciplinary action will be taken if needed. (That includes how you speak, act, respond, critique, and how you treat your peer’s space, property, artwork, notes, and all other personal belongings, etc.) If you don’t have permission to use or touch someone’s things, the rule is to not touch it.
- Laptop Use-IF a laptop is needed for an activity/assignment you will be qued to bring them out. If laptops are not needed for an activity/assignment, they should be packed away in your backpacks in the cubbies. If non-academic related material is on your laptop, you will be given a different option to complete the assignment without the use of your laptop. *It is imperative that students are not using the laptops for anything other than educational use. Please be sure to have yours charged, and ready to use if needed. We will be utilizing Canvas for discussions, notes, and some submissions.
- Cell Phones-
- During Studio work time, cellphones will be tolerated to play music (IN HEADPHONES ONLY, at a low enough volume it CANNOT be heard by your neighbors.)
- In certain class activities, you may be given permission to use your phone to look up reference pictures or information, or specific websites.
- In all other cases, cell phone use is unacceptable. During lectures, videos, presentations, class activities (other than specified activities) and other directed classroom learning situations cell phones will be confiscated on first offense. If you follow the rules, and keep my trust, you may keep your phone. If you fight me about your phone, you’ll be asked to leave and spend the rest of the period with Powell.
- Inappropriate uses of cellphones:Social Media: Facebook, Twitter, Snap Chat, Pokémon Go, and other completely non-educationally related websites will result in immediate confiscation. Respect me, and your classmates by being fully engaged in class, and not preoccupied with nonsense.
- Avoid Plagiarism, and Copy write infringement- Photos, Artwork, and Information gathering is extremely easy now with almost complete access to the internet at all times. When we use information, and research info for presentations, reference photos, or otherwise it is necessary we give credit to where it was found. This is called citing our sources. I will require MLA, or APA formats for research papers and/or presentations. For photos I will require you to find the website/source of photo, date accessed, and title of photo/information, and artist name if there is one.
- Respecting the Art Room and Studio materials. Art supplies, and the tools that we use are not inexpensive. It is crucial that we properly handle, use, clean, and store art supplies at all times. With each medium introduced, you will be instructed on how to handle, care, and store each of them. You will be expected to take care of your space, and the supplies you used every day. Students who handle supplies inappropriately will end up losing points, and ability to use that medium. They will also spend the remainder of that lesson with Mr. Powell doing Art reading and writing assignments in lieu of the project.
- Food in the Classroom will not be tolerated. Not only is food in the classroom against RHS policy, it invites nasty guests like cock roaches, rats, and mice. Eating in the classroom will not be acceptable during class. In situations like a class party or art club meeting, we will properly prepare and clean up the studio for such an event. I will ask you to stow your food in your backpack in the cubby, or throw it away when you enter the class room. If you are not finished eating after lunch, you will be asked to finish in the hall. If you are not finished 5 minutes after the bell, you are tardy.
- School Inappropriate Speech, Artwork, and Research. Students who speak, research, or create non-school appropriate things in the classroom will be directly spoken to at the time of offense. This includes themes of: Drugs/Alcohol, Marijuana, Sex, and other inappropriate or unsavory themes. Any offenses thereafter will be dealt with a call home, and/or referral.
- Other Notes- Renton High School Safety, Health, Bullying, Dress code, Emergency Evacuation, and Attendance policies are followed in this class. Offences will be reported to Admin, parent/guardians, and if necessary disciplinary action will be taken.
