Cumulative Final
Grading Policy
FORMATIVE - 35% of grade
Homework is assigned on a regular basis. Plan on about an hour of work per week. You will have time in class to work and anything not completed during class will need to be completed home. The practice you do in your homework is critical to your learning of Geometry as well as review for Algebra. Show all your work completely. Do homework promptly. Don’t get in a cycle of falling behind and catching up. Actively use the homework help to learn as well as to correct your homework.
Late/Missing
I accept late homework for 80 percent of the maximum score until the day before the chapter test. For full credit, I will collect your homework at the beginning of class. Example: On time homework is 5 points, late homework is 4, and missing is 0.
SUMMATIVE – 65% of grade
This category is composed of quizzes and tests. Not all units will have a quiz. The majority of units have a test. There will also be a cumulative semester final given at the end of the trimester.
Make-ups? If you miss a test or quiz day you will need to make it up as soon as you return. If your absence was excused the assessment is graded as usual. If your absence was unexcused you lose 20% of the points you earned.
RETAKES:
Quizzes: Most quizzes will not have retakes or corrections
Test Corrections: Students will be allowed to complete a test correction. Tests can be brought up by 50% of the points missed. Corrections are your opportunity to reflect on what went wrong and figure it out. You will need to be able to explain your mistakes. Corrections must be completed within 1 week of the test being passed back to students. There are no test corrections on the final.
Hazen High School Policies from the Student Handbook:

All work (homework, classwork, quizzes, assessments,…) is expected to be done by the student. My expectation is that you will do your own work and will neither give nor receive unauthorized assistance on any and all work for this class. Failure to do so is considered cheating.
“Students who use plagiarized papers or projects or are involved in any other form of cheating will be subject to reduction in grades and/or disciplinary action for a first offense. For a second offense in the same school year, a student may be subject to removal from class and/or a failing grade.”
In my classroom phones must be placed in the assigned phone pocket during class time. No music during lessons and tests. I will inform students when music usage is allowed.
“Personal electronic devices, such as cell phones, digital music players, smart watches, and any other electronic device that may capture images or sound, project or create sound, or be used to generate communication to other devices, are often disruptive to effective classroom instruction when not part of the teacher’s planned learning activities.
For this reason, all personal electronic devices and peripherals (earbuds, headphones, etc.) are to remain turned off and stored away from students during class time (bell-to-bell), unless explicit permission is given by an instructor for use.
Violations will result in progressive corrective action, parent/caregiver contact, and possible confiscation by security or administration/dean of students. Classroom teachers will attempt to redirect and intervene to remind students to meet this expectation prior to referral to an administrator, if necessary. Insubordinate or argumentative behavior may result in further disciplinary consequences.”
