Objectives

This course is designed using the Washington State/Common Core standards for English Language Arts.

Students will be able to:

• read, analyze, and think critically about literary texts
• apply the writing process to communicate ideas effectively
• analyze the figurative and connotative meaning of words
• speak clearly and persuasively

• The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo

• Your own independent reading text (at all times)
• Various short stories, poetry, and non-fiction texts
• Book Club Selections

Materials (bring these to class every day)

• notebook
• Pencil, pen, highlighter
• The text that the class is currently reading
• Chrome book and charger

Attendance

Attendance is critical to success. The most important thing is to come to class every day!
