Course Information
Course Description: Health is designed to prepare students for lifelong decision-making, problem solving, and health and wellness management. The focus is on helping students assume an active role in developing healthy lifestyles for themselves and others.
Class topics include:
- Individual Responsibility for Wellness- Goal setting, healthy vs risky behaviors, decision-making skills and self-esteem.
- Mental Health- Mental disorders, personality, human needs, coping with anger, bullying, stress, depression, and grief.
- Nutrition- Nutrition basics, food processing and additives, and weight management.
- Substance Issues- How alcohol, tobacco and other drugs affect individuals and society.
- Human Sexuality and Reproduction- An abstinence-based look at anatomy, pregnancy, STDs, contraception, healthy relationships, and refusal skills.
- Emergency Care- CPR training.
