This is an area that I feel is very important because it indicates the level of respect a student holds for himself/herself, the classroom environment, other students and of course the teacher. Additionally, in an adult profession, employers expect consistent attendance and participation. Students should understand that school is their current profession.
Adult professionals must prepare for their vacations and illnesses, or must make up any missed work; I expect students to behave similarly. If a student knows that he or she will be absent, it is important for him or her to prepare for their homework, assignments, etc. prior to the absence. If a student is unexpectedly absent, he or she should get the homework assignment from Canvas. If a student is absent for a test, he or she will be allowed to take it at another time. Students should work with me to set up an acceptable time for both of us. This may require coming to school early, taking the makeup test/quiz at lunch, coming to Tutorial or staying after school.
In the business world, employees must notify employers if they are running behind on a project. Employees are expected to complete projects within the deadlines, or work with their team and supervisor to extend the deadline. Students are expected to behave as business professionals and should notify Ms. Crow, their supervisor, of any issues they are having with projects or deadlines. Late work should be negotiated in advance with Ms. Crow; however, there might be a deduction of 10% from the grade.
In a job you wouldn’t be able to be on your phone whenever you want, so same with our class! Think of this class like a job! Respect this space and this time, like I will respect you and we’ll be good!
