Topic 27 = Stewart 4.3 (Derivatives & the Shape of a Graph) = AP Classroom (5.3 review of increasing/decreasing), 5.4, 5.5, 5.6, and 5.7

There is a TON of information in this section, and all of it is tested in multiple ways on the AP test, because it is one of the "big ideas." Derivatives tell us everything we need to know about a function. We will be connecting:

when a function is increasing, decreasing, and the location of extrema to the sign of the derivative (the First Derivative Test, or FDT)
when a function is concave up, concave down, and its points of inflection to the sign of the second derivative (the Second Derivative Test, or SDT

Action Items:

1. Take notes in class. If absent, review the powerpoints below and/or the extra resources, take notes as necessary (use the Notes document if you prefer), and make note of any questions you may have.

2. Book Practice: none yet. Since this topic is so central, and there are so many AP Classroom videos associated with it, tonight's required work is to take notes on the AP Classroom videos & do one of their handouts. (Yes, I will still check for them!) You can also annotate the powerpoint linked below.

3. Watch and annotate*: AP Classroom videos for 5.4 and 5.5. *Annotate = at the very least, you should copy down the examples, paying particular attention to the required justifications.

4. Homework 4.3.1: Answer questions #1 & 2 on page 1 from the AP Student 5.4 Handout and add to your video notes (as needed).
