Course Information

The course objective is to deepen understanding of English vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structures. Students will accomplish this through text analysis and interpretation, academic writing, and short oral presentations. Non-fiction materials selected from various content-area texts, journals, essays, speeches, biographies, and newspapers will be used to promote conceptual development across the curriculum.

Classwork will be weighted as follows:

  1. Summative - 50% Summative assessments include presentations, longer writing assignments, projects, and exams.
  2. Formative - 40% Formative assessments are a combination of assignments, quizzes, short texts, grammar practice, and other learning experiences.
  3. Effort- 10% The effort grade captures how the student engages with their own learning and participates in the learning environment.
