Course Information
Description: Because of Washington’s teacher shortage there is increased need and support for early teacher preparation, support, and retention. Learn the fundamentals of the education system and practice lesson-planning, instructional best-practices, and classroom management. Delve into cultural competencies and discover the impact that culturally responsive teaching can bring to a community. Participate in a weekly 2-3 hour internship in district elementary and middle schools. Prepare for the Para Educator Exam and earn your Para Educator certification upon high school graduation. Visit college campuses and experience classes and workshops taught by CWU professors. Earn college credits from CWU upon successful completion of this course.
Class Routines: Our typical schedule will be in the classroom on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and at internships on Tuesday and Thursday. Students will be notified of any changes in the schedule. Students who do not take the bus to internships should use the remind app to notify Ms. Rance they are in attendance for the day.
Each week an internship reflection will be due by Sunday at midnight.
Late work: Late work will only be accepted if there is a prior arrangement prior to the due date. No reflections will be accepted late.
Internship expectations:
1) Teacher academy shirt, If you have a plain black shirt, please wear it
- A shirt does not mean tank top, sports bra, belly shirt
- Please wear the least torn up jeans you own
- No hats or hoods while you are in the building
- NO EARPHONES. AT ALL. EVER. DURING INTERNSHIPS
- NO TEXTING OR SNAPCHATS. AT ALL. EVER. DURING INTERNSHIPS
- NO PHOTOS unless your teacher instructs you to do so
- NO FOOD OR DRINK (water is ok) can be brought in w/o advance notice and permission from Mentor Teacher
***If you are going to be absent from your internship make sure you email your mentor teacher so they can plan accordingly.
