Welcome to Geometry A! We will be studying the properties of shapes, solids, angles, and lines. Geometry is a different type of math than what students may be comfortable with but that is ok! This class is a great opportunity to build on problem solving skills and analytical thinking – especially in the visual aspect of thinking. All homework, announcements, class info will be on the Canvas website. If you need help with Canvas, let me know or ask the office. Emails will be sent to students and parents updating them on what has happened and what is coming up in class. Please make sure all email addresses are updated with the front office!

Grading Policy
Formative Assessments (35%)
- Class Work: Students must come to class prepared each day. They should have their notebook and pencil during every class period. Students must be prepared to participate in taking notes, practice problems, and discussion (written and oral) of math problems. This section will also include daily Entry Task or Exit Ticket , and other tasks.
In class work is due that day in class.
- Homework: Expect 20-50 minutes of homework approximately 3 times a week. We will review homework questions during class and grade it based on effort and corrections. Homework is due the next day unless otherwise stated. Late work will be accepted for 60% of the points if the assignment is complete. The last day for late work for each unit will be 1 week after the quiz for that unit.
Summative Assessments (65%)
- Most units will have an Intro Quiz, Checkpoint Quiz, and end the unit with a Unit Test.
- Any quiz or test may contain a combination of multiple choice, short answer, and free-response questions.
- Quiz Score Improvements: If you are unsatisfied with your quiz score there is one way to improve it. If you score higher on your test you can average your quiz score with your test score and replace the quiz score with the new averaged score. The test score used for the average is the ORIGINAL test score, not the test score after test corrections.
- Test Corrections: Students will be allowed to complete a test correction. Tests can be brought up by 50% of the points missed. Corrections are your opportunity to reflect on what went wrong and figure it out. You will need to be able to explain your mistakes. Corrections must be completed within 1 week of the test being passed back to students.
- Projects, individual or group, may be given throughout the trimester.
Absence/Make-up Policy
It is in your best interest to be in class every day. On the rare occasion that you miss class, you are required to get the notes from a classmate and see me regarding any missed handouts or activities.
If you miss a quiz or test, see me immediately upon your return to schedule a time to make it up. Excused absences will be allowed a make up. Unexcused absences may make up the quiz, but will have a 20% deduction in their score.
Extra Assistance: At least one math teacher should be available at the after school H.E.L.P. program in the Hazen Library, Monday-Thursday until 3:00.
DO NOT WAIT TO GET HELP UNTIL IT’S TOO LATE!!!
Cell Phone Policy
