Welcome to Marketing Exploration!

Course Description:

This class is designed to give you a foundational understanding of the principles of marketing. Class content will help prepare you for further studies in the field of marketing. Use the digital textbook and other materials to become more familiar with what marketing is, how marketing influences business decisions and consumer actions, and how to use principles of marketing to present yourself as you build a professional profile.

Students with accommodations will have an * next to the last turn-in day:

Student Attendance

Students are responsible for completing daily class attendance located next to Ms. Wade’s desk/front of the class on the table. If in person, please sign your class attendance. If you will be absent, please contact the attendance office to be excused. If you were marked absent by mistake, please send attendance an email with the date you were marked absent by mistake, the period, and the reason (I forgot to sign in today), etc. Classroom Passes Students will be allowed a bathroom pass for up to 15 minutes during class. If a student is gone for longer than 15 minutes, they will be added to the (NO PASS) list and will no longer leave class.

Pass to Teacher/Counselor/Admin.: Passes will not be given out during class time to go see another teacher, counselor, or admin. unless it is urgent.  You will need to arrange a time to see other teachers before school, at lunchtime, or after school. Pass to Career Center- The career center will request a student by sending a pass. You cannot leave class to go to the career center. Pass to the nurse- I will contact the nurse before sending a student to the nurse’s office. (the nurse cannot give medicine for headaches, stomach aches, etc.)

Classroom Rules and Norms

All class rules and norms are posted in the classroom as a reminder. The following rules are in place with no exceptions:

  • NO FOOD IN CLASS
  • NO DRINKS IN CLASS
  • NO CURSING IN CLASS
  • BE RESPECTFUL AT ALL TIME
  • NO CELL PHONES/ NO EXCEPTIONS

Expectations:

Participation: It is expected that you participate in class daily. “Participate” means to ask questions, pay attention, share opinions, and be on task. With participation comes some special considerations that need to be addressed. I ask we all have respect for one another throughout the duration of the course. With that in mind:

  • Everything that is said in the classroom stays in the classroom.
  • There are no put-downs.
  • If you know you are a natural talker, help others talk in class. If you know you are naturally quiet, take a chance in speaking up.

Computer/Chromebook Usage Policy: Students will and are expected to abide by all guidelines as outlined in the Renton School District Responsible Use Policy.

School Cell Phone Policy:

Mobile phones will be used to enrich, expand, and explore this classroom from time to time. Utilizing mobile phones is a privilege that comes with expectations, rules, and consequences. Review the information below, discuss it with your parent/guardian, and mark the choice that is appropriate for your family. Sign and return the bottom portion to Ms. Wade.

Expectations for usage in the classroom:

  • Phones will be only used to connect to the internet for relevant classroom activities
  • Phones will only be used to seek information relevant to classroom activities
  • Phones will only be used to text answers to games such as Kahoot or Quizlet Live

Rules for usage in the classroom:

  • Phones will not be used to text /message for personal and/or social reasons during class
  • Phones will be kept in the classroom phone station if students cannot put them in a backpack
  • Phones will be used only at times and for purposes directed by the teacher
  • When texting/messaging for classroom purposes, students will only text/message information relevant to the class activity and will refrain from adding extraneous and/or inappropriate information

Consequences for misuse:

Should a student be caught violating the rules above and/or engaging in activities that are inappropriate for mobile phone use in the classroom the following will occur:

  • 1st Offense: Verbal Warning
  • 2nd Offense: Hallway Meeting/Deduction of Points
  • 3rd Offense: Cell phone Reflection/Call Home
  • 4th Offense: Restorative Circle w/Dean of Students/Points Deducted
  • 5th Offense: Meeting with Parents/Student cannot bring Phone to Class
  • 6th Offense: Referral to Admin

 

GUARDIANS: Mobile phone plans are costly, and this classroom wishes to respect your family’s rules about cell phone ownership and usage. Your student is NOT required to have or use a mobile phone for class; alternative methods will be presented for students who do not have mobile phones and/or wish to refrain from mobile phone usage at school. Please fill out the information below regarding your family’s decision about your student’s mobile phone usage at school and have your student return it to Ms. Wade.
