Overview: Over the next three weeks, we will be studying and analyzing THREE different visual bodies of work. The three bodies of work that we will study are:

1. Dove Commercial Campaign
2. The Photography of Barbara Kruger
3. Cartoons of Liza Donnelly

**Before we begin our analysis of these three bodies of work, we will first spend some time practicing with vocabulary and examples of the Language of Photography and the Language of Film. These tools will help us with our work for next week.

Learning Objectives:

You will be able to look at a visual text and understand its purpose and meaning using the COST Analysis tool.
Demonstrate understanding of vocabulary of photography and film through written responses.
You will be able to write a thoughtful analysis of a visual text using academic vocabulary of photography and film.

Language Objectives:

Learn and use the vocabulary of photography and film.
Talk with a partner about what you notice in photos/film.

Guiding conceptual questions for the week:

How do we analyze visual texts?
Why is it important for us to understand how to analyze visual texts?
What language should we use when discussing and writing about visual texts?
How can we analyze a visual text to determine meaning and author's intention?

MONDAY 10/10
