Overview: Over the next week, we will be studying and analyzing TWO different visual bodies of work (*BODIES OF WORK ARE "UP FOR GRABS" FOR YOUR FUTURE ASSESSMENTS). The two non-literary bodies of work that we will study are:

1. The Photography of Barbara Kruger2. Cartoons of Liza Donnelly

**Before we begin our analysis of these two bodies of work, we will first spend some time practicing with vocabulary and examples of the Language of Photography. These tools will help us with our work for this week.

Learning Objectives:

· You will be able to look at a visual text and understand its purpose and meaning using the COST Analysis tool.

· Demonstrate understanding of vocabulary of photography and illustration through written responses.

· You will be able to write a thoughtful analysis of a visual text using academic vocabulary of photography and illustration.

Language Objectives:

· Learn and use the vocabulary of photography/illustration.

· Talk with a partner about what you notice in photos/illustration.

Guiding conceptual questions for the week:

· How do we analyze visual texts?

· Why is it important for us to understand how to analyze visual texts?

· What language should we use when discussing and writing about visual texts?

· How can we analyze a visual text to determine meaning and author's intention?
