Summary of Your Short Story

Now that you've been able to finish your short story, write a complete summary of it!

This will help jog your memory when you return from break.

Take a look at your first draft of this here!

As a reminder...

Summary 101

We use the Somebody-Wanted-But-So-Then format to create a structure for our summaries. Here's an example of how one might look:

Somebody: The main character in "How to Transform an Everyday Ordinary Hoop Court..." is a young, Latino basketball player who values hard work.

Wanted: They want to use basketball as a "way out" of their impoverished neighborhood.

But: When they go to the best gym in the city to play against the best and improve their skills, they are excluded and belittled by the other players.

So: Dante, the best player in the gym, challenges the main character to take his spot in a game on the condition that they must leave when they are defeated.

Then: The main character impresses all the other players by demonstrating some great basketball skills in this game, and they earn the acceptance and respect of the other players.

You will notice that this summary could have gone in a lot of directions, but I chose to emphasize the parts of the story that I thought seemed the most important. Each like is only a sentence (maybe two at most), and you should be able to take away the prompt words and still understand the sentences as a paragraph.

You've done this before--let's give it a try!
