TRI 2 FEMALE STRENGTH & CONDITIONING

The intent of the Physical Education program at Hazen High School is to provide each student the opportunity to participate in a variety of enjoyable physical activities that represent options available to all ages to encourage lifelong fitness. Emphasis will be on the goals of physical fitness and the acquisition of skills and concepts in which the student can participate after graduation. During the year, the students may have different teachers each trimester. Grading:  Adheres to the 5 Washington State and National Physical Education Learning Standards and is based on activity level & conduct, participation in proper PE Uniform, discussions, demonstrations, written assignments, test/quizzes, and projects.  Testing and assessments can be conducted via written or physical skill performance.  

 

Standard 1 (25% Physical Activities/Heart Rates): The physically literate individual demonstrates competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns. 

Standard 2 (25% Coursework): The physically literate individual applies knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics related to movement and performance. 

Standard 3 (20% Fitness Testing) The physically literate individual demonstrates the knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical activity and fitness. 

Standard 4 (20% Group activities): The physically literate individual exhibits responsible personal and social behavior and respects self and others. 

Standard 5 (10% Citizenship/Group activities): The physically literate individual recognizes the value of physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction. 

Participation:  is essential for physical education credit. In order to receive credit, the student must be suited up in apparel designed for exercise and activity and be different than the clothes worn outside of class. Students must be actively involved in all class activities, such as daily stretching, fitness, and skill activities. Appropriate classroom conduct and good sportsmanship in these activities are essential for a positive learning experience. Points can be deducted due to lack of participation and poor sportsmanship. 

 

Attendance: Assisting students in establishing lifelong habits of reliability and promptness is an instructional objective of this course, thus a student’s grade or credit in this class is impacted by tardiness and absences. 

  • Excused absences can be made up by completing a fitness make-up form or other written assignment assigned by your teacher.  It is the students’ responsibility to check in either before they know of an absence or upon returning to school from an absence for their make-up assignment.  Make up work is due within one week upon return to school from excused absence.  
  • Unexcused absences can NOT be made up and will result in a loss of all daily participation points and/or assignments that were given the day of the unexcused absence. 
  • Tardy Policy: students are expected to follow the Hazen High School Tardy Policy.  If a student is tardy to the locker room, they will not be able to suit up for class and will lose points based on the Non-Suit Policy below. 

 

Attire: Appropriate attire is required for participation and consists of apparel designed for physical activity and exercise. This includes and athletic shirt (no tank tops, or cut-offs), athletic shorts, socks and athletic shoes (no crocs, sandals, or other open toed shoes). Appropriate sweat-shirts and sweat pants are permitted when classes are outside.   

 

NO CELL PHONES. All cell phones will be left in the student’s locker before exiting the locker room. This class will involve a lot of dynamic movement, heavy weights and over-sized equipment. In order to maintain a safe environment, students must constantly aware of their surroundings and potential safety hazards. 

 

Written Assignments: Written assignments are used to support the classroom-based assessments and other district and state health & fitness objectives. Topics include sports, athletic injuries, sportsmanship, fitness concepts, vocabulary, and nutrition. The class teacher will deliver these learning tools in a variety of ways including via Canvas, Google Documents, and physical paper. These assignments will primarily be done together in class. 

 

General Expectations: 

  1. Be in the locker room before the tardy bell rings. 
  1. Be suited in appropriate PE gear 5 minutes after the tardy bell has rung. 
  1. Meet in the assigned roll taking area on time or you will be marked TARDY.  
  1. Ask for permission from your teacher to leave the instructional / fitness area. 
  1. Cooperate with all instructors. 
  1. Observe all safety and health rules in each class activity. 
  1. Be respectful and attentive to other ways to learn and perform skills. 
  1. Take proper care of all equipment and facilities. 
  1. Report all injuries immediately. 
  1. Use appropriate language. 
  1. Items that are unacceptable during class: tank tops, cut-offs, gloves. Open-toed shoes, long chains or necklaces, and large hooped earrings are also not allowed due to safety. 
  1. Do not bring any electronic equipment to the classroom unless specifically directed by your teacher. Points will be deducted if these items are seen, heard, and/or used during class. The student may also be referred for disciplinary action. 

 

Locker Room, Locks and Lockers 

  1. A lock will be issued to each student to use in the locker room.  It must be returned at the end of the semester/year or an $8 fine will be issued.   
  1. Remember your combination. 
  1. Do not share you lock, locker or combination with anyone in the locker room. 
  1. Use your assigned locker for clothing storage and use the long lockers only during class time. 
  1. Be responsible for your own personal belongings! Lock everything up!  HHS is not responsible for lost or stolen items, including electronics. 
  1. Report loss or theft of personal property immediately. 
  1. Leave all valuables at home, in your hallway locker, or with your teacher. 
  1. Do your part to leave the locker room clean.  NO food or drinks allowed!! Water is allowed. 
  1. All students must remain in the locker room until excused by the teacher or the bell rings.  

 

Medical Excuses: 

If students are present, they must suit up and participate to the best of their ability.  Even if students are feeling ill a non-suit will be given if they do not suit up for class.  Make up work and credit will be determined by the teacher. 

  1. A parent/guardian can authorize a 1-2-day non-participation postponement which must include a reason to not be suited and must be made up. (It is NOT excused, just postponed).  
  1. After 2 days, the student requires medical clearance from the School Nurse, Athletic Trainer, or other healthcare professional BEFORE they can participate. Without clearance, points cannot be made up.  
  1. Extended medical releases for injury or illness from a doctor’s office will be dealt with on an individual basis.  Talk with your teacher directly about the situation if you will be out for an extended period of time to discuss how to continue to receive credit.

Standards for Chromebooks & Personal Electronics: 

Students will use their Chromebooks and other electronic devices in a manner that is responsible and does not disrupt the learning environment.  This includes: 

  • Leaving their Chromebook and personal electronics in their locker during Fitness classes unless specifically receiving directions from a teacher to bring it out for class; 
  • Unless specifically receiving directions from a teacher to bring electronics to class, personal electronics (including headphones & earbuds) should be neither seen nor heard; 
  • Using Chromebooks and other devices for school-related work and not gaming, chatting, or internet surfing. 
  • Taking Chromebooks home each day and bringing it back fully charged; 
  • Complying with teacher requests related to appropriate use of Chromebooks and other devices; and 
  • Refraining from using Chromebooks to violate school policies, such as those regarding plagiarism, inappropriate content, and cyberbullying. 

Students will abide by all guidelines outlined in the Renton School District Responsible Use Policy. Students are reminded that they are responsible for their Chromebooks, including being responsible for securing their Chromebook in their locker during fitness classes if not specifically told to bring it with them to class.
