Course Information
Course Description
This is the third course in the Algebra sequence, which serves to formalize and extend the mathematics that students learned in previous math courses. Students will learn how to factor quadratic functions using the area model and diamond problems. While graphing quadratics students will use their factoring skills in combination with the Zero Product Property to identify the x-intercepts of parabolas, investigate ways to find the y-intercept and vertex. and will be familiar with the three different forms of quadratic equations: Standard, Intercept, and Vertex Forms. Finally, students use new and previously-learned skills to solve quadratic equations by factoring, completing the square, square roots, and the quadratic formula. Earning credit in Algebra I-B is a graduation requirement.
Grading
Assessments that demonstrate your individual mastery of learning targets within the course will be 85% of your grade. Participation makes up the remaining 15% of your grade and includes homework and classwork.
