Course Syllabus
Culinary Syllabus for the remainder of the year 2021-2022
Welcome back to school, things are going to look a little different and some things will stay the same if you have had me before:
Rules of the class:
- Students cannot bring in outside food/gum or drink into the culinary space. There will be a garbage can at the door where you can throw things out.
- Students always need to have on a mask covering their nose correctly, they will not be allowed into the space without one.
- Students will put backpacks/personal items in designated cubby area and will not be permitted to go into them during class time.
- Phones and any type of electronics are to be put into backpacks before the start of class. They cannot be on your person (i.e pockets or underneath hoodies)
- Students will wash their hands once backpacks and phones are put away.
- Student cannot eat in the classroom and all food from labs will be sent home in to-go containers.
- While students will be working in groups, they should not need to touch one another.
Student Teacher Tri 3
This trimester you will have Ms. B as a student teacher in Culinary Foundations. Trimester 1 she assisted as a paraeducator in the classroom and last trimester she began her student teaching. Weekly Schedule:
You are responsible for all work on canvas, if you are absent you still need to turn in all work that is due that day.
- Mondays: lecture/notes
- Tuesdays: vocab quiz from quizlet and class demo
(bookwork from previous week due) - Wednesdays: mise en place
- Thursdays: cooking
- Fridays: weekly check in, weekly notes, lab reflection, bookwork
What you will need in order to cook in class:
- Student will need to complete a food safety test and earn 100% before they can cook.
- Student will need to turn in a white lab note and syllabus paper signed by parent/guardian.
- Students will complete weekly bookwork due Tuesday nights by 11:59pm
- If bookwork has not been completed on time, student will sit and work in the classroom on the classwork that they are missing and have the option to complete the lab at home (students can only make up 2 labs)
- Student will need to wear proper clothing to cook: closed toe shoes, a hat (hats are provided if needed), apron (provided in classroom), and no baggy clothing or jackets
- Students will have needed to complete Wednesdays Mise En Place IN CLASS in order to participate in the lab on Thursday.
- If students are absent on Wednesday, they have the option to complete the Mise En Place paperwork at home and turn it in by 11:59pm on Wednesday and INFORM THE TEACHER OF THEIR ABSENCE so they can cook Thursday.
Quizlet:
Each Tuesday you will that a quick vocabulary class at the beginning of class. You will want to use Quizlet to find the vocabulary words. For every activity you complete you will receive 5pts of extra credit toward your final grade.
Projects:
These will be due at the end of the trimester for a grade. In additional if you want to take advance culinary classes you will need to have these completed beforehand:
- Leadership Hours: Students will be required to complete 5 hours of catering/community service in the culinary classroom during the trimester. Anything more than 5 hours will be extra credit. Each day this is submitted late, the overall grade for this assignment will be reduced by 10%
- Healthy Family Dinner: Students will be completing a 3 course meal for their family, please look for this under the projects tab. Each day this is submitted late, the overall grade for this assignment will be reduced by 10%
- Lab Work: Students will need to complete all unit labs. Only 2 labs can be made up at home or after school on a designated day chosen by the teacher

- 5 Eggs
- 6 Dairy
- 7 Grain
Grading Policy (late work, etc)
- Once assignment close, they will not be reopened without an "open an assignment for 24 hours" coupon. Please make sure to keep track of when assignments are due.
- Vocab quizzes are opened on Tuesday and close within the first 15 minutes after class begins. You cannot re-due these.
- Modules will be open for one week after the week closes.
- If you are absent, you can still complete the work online in the modules. If something isn't working just email the teacher.
- If you have not done the bookwork in Canvas by Tuesday night at 11:59pm you will not be able to cook in class on Thursdays so please keep up with your bookwork.
- I do not accept links as a way to turn in your work.
