Course Description

This course is for students interested in an introduction to robotics. The class is an interdisciplinary class which covers design, assembly, programming and testing of a robot.

Course Objectives

Students will learn how to write programs to make the robot do different tasks, like turn on LED light, make a sound, move, etc.

Grading policies and scales are currently being adjusted based on guidance from OSPI, and are subject to adjustment after the trimester begins. Please know that no student's grade will be adversely impacted if any changes occur after Sept. 2nd, 2020.

Class Rules

Hall Passes

  • Get a pass!  If you are not in class, you need to have a pass
  • There are no hall passes given during the first ten minutes and the last ten minutes of class.  Plan wisely!
  • Stay in class from bell to bell
  • Cannot get hallway passes to go to the office during instruction time

Mask Expectations

  • All students need to wear a mask while in the school building
  • The mask needs to cover BOTH mouth and nose
  • All students must wear masks unless actively eating or drinking
  • This means during class, during passing period, after school, etc.
  • You need to wear your mask properly

Tardy

  • All students need to be on time to class every period every day
  • A weekly attendance report will be printed and students with multiple tardies will have appropriate discipline.  Discipline includes 6th period (detention)
  • If you need help finding the best path to your class in order to avoid being tardy, talk to an adult and we will help you plan

Electronics

  • All students have access to their Chromebook. 
  • Personal electronics are not allowed for non-educational purposes during any class
  • You are not able to use and/or charge your phone during class time
  • Personal electronics need to be put away (backpack, pocket, etc.) during instructional time
  • If you have an emergency and need your personal device, please communicate with an adult so that we can support that need

Bathroom Breaks

  • Students will receive 5 bathroom opportunities/passes per month, these are for emergencies only. Students have adequate time between classes
  • Students should go to the bathroom and have their books and homework prior to entering the classroom
  • Once a student uses all 5 passes, they will not be allowed to leave the classroom, so it is important to save them until they are necessary
  • If a student does not come back on time, or student is seeing just hanging out in the hallway, or any other place in the school, they lose their privilege of going to the bathroom

Classroom Expectation

  • Follow instruction the first time when they are given
  • No cell phones in class-cell phones must be out of sight, and silenced
  • Keep noise level to a reasonable volume
  • Be respectful
  • Don’t drag, or swivel yourselves with classroom chairs
  • No eating in class
  • Keep desks tidy before leaving
  • One person speaking at one time, if instructor is talking, no one else is talking, especially during lecture, taking attendance etc.
  • For 1st period, earliest time to come into class is 7:15 am, don’t come in before this time. I use this time to prep your classroom

Make-Up Work Policy

This course is different, students will need to be in class to be successful, students are limited to what they can do from home. Absent students can go to Canvas to see if there’s make up work that’s available online, it is important that students go to Canvas while they are absent. It’s the responsibility of the student to keep track of what is missing, and communicate with instructor if there’s an issue about missing work, confusion about assignment, etc.
