Instructions

No Zoom today (Tuesday)

This assignment is set up as a quiz but is scored as a assignment. Work the problems on paper. For this assignment type your number answer as 71  (don't type x=71)   You have 4 tries so try your best.

Steps:

1. Distribute (that means multiply) if there are parenthesis.

2. Combine like terms on both sides

(so add terms with X together, and add numbers by themselves together)

3. Subtract the number from both sides

4. Divide both sides by number in front of X

Example problems:

Ex. 1

LaTeX: 3x\:+\:10\:+\:9x\:+\:2\:=\:46\:+\:2

LaTeX: 12x\:+\:12\:=48

            LaTeX: -12\:=\:-12

              LaTeX: 12x=36

              LaTeX: \frac{12x}{12}\:=\:\frac{36}{12}

                   LaTeX: x=3

Ex. 2

LaTeX: 8\:+\:2\left(x+4\right)\:=31\:+\:3

LaTeX: 8\:+\:2x\:+\:8\:=34

        LaTeX: 2x\:+\:16\:=\:34

                  LaTeX: -16\:=\:-16

                     LaTeX: 2x\:=\:18

                      LaTeX: \frac{2x}{2}=\frac{18}{2}

                         LaTeX: x=9
