One of the MOST IMPORTANT things we can do as language learners is learn about the culture of the communities that speak the language we are learning. Language and culture are intertwined - each affects and reflects the other. A good practice when learning about another culture is to compare it to your own culture - not in a judgmental way, but in a way that allows you to identify ways they are alike and different.
This unit's stories have been set in Bolivia - a country that many US citizens can't even find on a map!! Let's learn a little bit about it.
Check out this website to get an overview of Bolivia’s culture. (The website AFS-USA is hosted by an organization that organizes student exchange opportunities. If that is interesting to you at all, you can explore more of the tabs at the top of the website: Study Abroad, Host a Student, etc). For this assignment, you will only need to read the page about Bolivia. Keep scrolling down until you have read all the sections: People, Language, Food.
Your grade will be determined by the thoughtfulness of your responses. There are no right or wrong answers.
Then answer the following questions, reflecting on what you have read and comparing it to your own life/culture. Answer the questions in English. You don’t need complete sentences, but you DO need complete thoughts!
