Grammar Practice: changing verbs from SHE/HE form to WE form
The versión principal of the story from this unit (¿Qué tiempo hace en Chile) is written about one girl, Carly. All of the verbs that she does are written in the SHE/HE form: vive (she lives), grita (she yells), está (she is feeling).
In the versión alternativa, the story is about 2 people . Carly and the narrator. Now the narrator tells the story about what he and Carly do together: vivimos (we live), gritamos (we yell), estamos (we are feeling).
Do you notice how the verbs change? The SHE/HE form usually ends in the letter -e or -a. The WE form ends in -mos. Much of the time you can just add -mos to the s/he form of the verb, but not always. Look at the following list of familiar verbs and notice which ones just add -mos, and which ones have another small change too.
grita (s/he yells) -- gritamos (we yell)
baila (s/he dances) -- bailamos (we dance)
camina (s/he walks) -- caminamos (we walk)
trabaja (s/he works) -- trabajamos (we work)
besa (s/he kisses) -- besamos (we kiss)
vive (s/he lives) -- vivimos (we live)
está (s/he is feeling) -- estamos (we are feeling)
tiene (s/he has) -- tenemos (we have)
quiere (s/he wants) -- queremos (we want)
In the sentences below, choose the correct verb form for each sentence, based on WHO is doing the verb. REMEMBER: if one person does the verb (SHE or HE), it will end in -e or -a; if the speaker and another person do it (WE), it will end in -mos.
