Course Description:  Welcome to Child Development! This is a one-semester Family and Consumer Sciences vocational education course.  This class is designed for sophomore, junior and senior students.  This course will satisfy a CTE credit or general elective credit for graduation.  This course explores the importance of understanding a child as an individual in regard to the child’s growth psychologically, socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually. Students will learn about developmental theories, family structures, heredity, parenting styles, prenatal development, labor and delivery, and the needs of children from birth through age six. Students will care for a RealCare baby simulator (or complete an alternate assignment) in order to find out what it is really like to be the parent of an infant. Who should take this course: people who plan to work with children in any capacity (teacher, pediatrician, childcare, etc.), people who may work in business or marketing careers that deal with children or children’s products, and those who plan to be parents at some point in their lives.

Course  Topics:

  • Observing Children
  • Developmental Theories
  • Families and Parenting

Attendance:

I have to take attendance every day!  This is state law!  It is very challenging when we are not in a classroom setting.  Therefore we are going to try this:

Every day you will answer a daily question in Canvas.

  • The attendance question is found under the assignment or module tab.
  • Click on the appropriate day and answer the question (daily) by 4 pm!!!
  • If you don't respond by 4 pm you will be marked absent
  • Attendance is (5 points) each day
  • If for some reason you cannot answer the question by 4 pm, you MUST email me.

Late/Missing Work:

Due to remote/online learning, students will be allowed to turn in any assignment until November 25th.  ALL assignments are due on this date.  This is one week before the end of trimester 1.

Assignments still have due dates.  Please do your best to complete assignments on time, so that you don't fall behind.
