Attendance-Taking Procedures: (No change from TRI 1 and 2): 

It is highly encouraged to attend Zoom classes from beginning of instruction to end.

If you are unable to attend, I will mark you present given I receive communication and follow up with what you missed, THAT DAY. If I do not receive communication, you will be marked absent. 

* Coming to class, staying for two minutes, then leaving, does not count as being present. 

* It is to your benefit and educational progress to attend each Zoom call from beginning of instruction to end. 

Office Hours: Fridays, by appointment (easiest way to reach me is through email, I will then send you a Zoom invite). No change from TRI 1 and 2. I usually meet with students all day on Friday, so PLEASE reach out to me, it's what I'm here for! And, happy to do! It does help! 

Course Description:

Focused Language Arts 9-EXP (TRI 3 LA) includes grammar, vocabulary, literature, and composition. Students will cover topics such as speaking, literary analysis, citing sources, and writing reports. Students may also study myths, drama, novels, short stories, and poetry. The EDGE Curriculum by National Geographic is used as core curriculum. 

Course Objectives: 

Students will improve clarity of writing structure, content and meaning. 

Students work to improve reading fluency, comprehension and analysis and understanding of various pieces of literature. 

Students learn to utilize various strateges to assist in improving overall reading comprehension and writing skill (graphic organizers, annotation, notes, discussion, questioning, comparing/contrasting.). 

Grading Policy: Students are encouraged to meet deadlines (assignments are typically due each Sunday evening by midnight, but in the event a student cannot meet this deadline, deadlines are extended. I keep deadlines open until a week prior to the end of the trimester. For TRI 3, the deadline is June 14, 2020. As always, communicate with me if you feel overwhelmed or need extra help. 

Grading Scale: 

School Provided Resources: You should have picked up your book for TRI 3. If not, they are right in the front door of Hazen. They are on a cart labeled, "LA 9," each book is labeled with your names on it. I will collect the books from you at the end of the school year, so please keep good care of it and keep it at your work station, easy to find and use.
