You have THREE options for your summative assessment about WWII and the Mexican-American experience.

Please see the descriptions for each option, below. Once you've decided which option you want to pursue, you will find each option listed as a separate assignment on Canvas.

OPTION 1: Individual Voice Recording

OPTION 3: Flipgrid video & Discussion board

PURPOSE: The purpose of this summative assessment is for you to reflect on what you've learned in this unit: The lecture notes, the Harvest of Loneliness Documentary about the Bracero Program, and the 1943 Zoot Suit Riots.

Option 1: Individual Voice Recording:

1) To prepare for an individual voice recording, you need to watch all three (3) of the video lectures for this unit, complete the questions for the Harvest of Loneliness documentary, and analyze the two newspaper accounts of the Zoot Suit Riots.

2) Based on what you learned, write down 3-5 discussion-worthy questions.

3) Record yourself asking and answering these questions.

4) I will be listening for you to do the following:

Cite sources and explain the evidence at least two times.
Explain the validity and/or limitations of the sources you cite.
Actively and regularly apply historic context.
Create an audio recording that is at least 5 minutes long.

HOW TO RECORD:

Using your Chromebook, go to: online-voice-recorder.com

Click the recording button. BEGIN by telling me your name - first and last. Start talking! Once you're done, click Save. Submit link to Canvas.

Option 2: Written Reflection

1) To prepare for your individual Written Reflection, you need to watch all three (3) of the video lectures for this unit, complete the questions for the Harvest of Loneliness documentary, and analyze the two newspaper accounts of the Zoot Suit Riots.

2) Based on what you learned, write down 3-5 questions that you are genuinely curious about and are worthy of your thinking time.

3) Pick the TWO questions that you are most interested in. Write a paragraph response to each question (two paragraphs total). NOTE: You can either write the paragraphs directly into the Text Box once you click the "Submit Assignment" button for this assignment OR you can write your paragraphs in a Google Doc or Word Doc and submit to Canvas. If you create a Google Doc, please be sure that you change the settings so that I can read your work.

4) I will assess your written work based on the following:

Cite sources and explain evidence at least four times.
Explain the validity and/or limitations of the sources you cite.
Actively and regularly apply historic context.
Write about questions that are interesting and worthy of your time. In other words, don't pick questions that have easy or obviously "correct" answers.

OPTION 3: Flipgrid video & Discussion board

1) To prepare for your Flipgrid video & Discussion, you need to watch all three (3) of the video lectures for this unit, complete the questions for the Harvest of Loneliness documentary, and analyze the two newspaper accounts of the Zoot Suit Riots.

2) Based on what you learned, write down 3-5 questions that you are genuinely curious about and are worthy of your thinking time.

3) Pick the TWO questions that you are most interested in.
